William and Marie Henderson were New Jersey natives who were actively involved with the Seton Hall University community and the larger Catholic community in the South Orange area, through the Bayley Seton League, the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the a Kempis Club of New Jersey, the Mercier Club, and other organizations. The William T. and Marie J. Henderson papers include the personal papers of William and Marie Henderson related to various activities, some photographs, and some material related to Seton Hall University and their family history.

Biographical Information
William T. Henderson was born December 1899 to Charles F. and Mary Henderson. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory School and graduated in 1920 from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
William T. Henderson married Marie Josephine O'Keefe on June 18, 1927 in South Orange, New Jersey. They had two children, William Thomas, Jr. and Marie J. Henderson Magnier.
Mr. Henderson worked as a member of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) firm Charles F. Henderson and Sons. As of 1970, the Henderson family had the longest continuous family membership on the NYSE floor, which began in 1861 with his grandfather, William T. Henderson.
Mr. Henderson was involved in numerous activities and organizations in the New York City area and was a generous supporter of Seton Hall University. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Mercier Club, Serra International, the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. In recognition of his involvement with Seton Hall University, he received an honorary degree in 1956 for his memorial gifts and scholarships to benefit students of the school. His generosity also extended to the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey. Several scholarships and donations were given to the school, and he served as an advisor to the president of the college for financial services. On January 7, 1960, Mr. Henderson received papal honors from the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Henderson died in August 1968.
Marie O'Keefe was the daughter of Eugene and Rose Evelyn McCabe O'Keefe. She graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey in 1920. In 1959, she received an honorary law degree from the school.
Mrs. Marie Henderson was also a significant figure in the South Orange community. She was involved with the Bayley Seton League (where she served as president), Orange Women's Club, Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, and the à Kempis Club of New Jersey. She died in 1992.

Scope and Content of the Collection
The William T. and Marie J. Henderson papers documents the dedication and success of the Hendersons to the university and community. The materials show their involvement in Catholic and charitable organizations as well as their support for their alma maters. There are five series within this collection. Series I consists of documents and memorabilia demonstrating Mr. Henderson's presence within the Seton Hall and South Orange community. Series II consists of documents and memorabilia surrounding his spouse, Mrs. Marie Henderson, and her accomplishments and contributions to the surrounding area. Series III includes documents and memorabilia of Seton Hall University. Series IV are the family papers comprising of correspondence with Seton Hall officials. Series V includes family and professional portraits.
