After graduation, Hayes Hamilton traveled the United States filming the landscapes, National Parks, and Catholic missions to later package into the Ralph Hayes Hamilton Travelogue Collection. Mr. Hamilton's lectures, first presented as hand-colored slideshows, were updated regularly and attracted large groups. His films were played for disabled soldiers in training camps and rehabilitation hospitals during World War II. A dedicated member of the American Legion, R. Hayes Hamilton donated his films and volunteered service to the American Red Cross, developing a method to project film onto hospital ceilings so that bedridden soldiers to easily enjoy the travelogues. Hayes Hamilton later went on to work in publicity as well as hospitality, later becoming the Director of Moving Motion Picture Publicity for Bermuda Hotels, Inc. Mr. Hayes Hamilton was a long-time member, and held office, in his local American Legion Post 95 and his local Rotary Club. Scope and Contents The collection consists of materials gathered by Ralph Hayes Hamilton associated with his travels around the United States as well as his later career in advertising and hospitality. Other items include drafts of books, film, and brochures written by Hayes Hamilton. Thirty two reels of film (color, sound, silent, black and white) detailing personal trips, trips for the Hamilton Travelogues and publicity videos make up the majority of the collection. Series 1, Printed Materials and Literature, 1918-1968, consists of box 1 and is arranged by subject. It contains print materials related to Hayes Hamilton's civic involvement, personal correspondence, publicity related to his career, and drafts of his professional writing. Series 2, Audiovisual, n.d., is housed in boxes 2-4. This series consists of reels of film (sound, image, color, and black and white) that were part of the donation to the Archives from Eva Hamilton's estate.
