Collection contains primarily his lecture and research notes. 54 English, German Biographical Note Msgr. Patrick Joseph Healy was born on July 26, 1871 in Waterford, Ireland. He was ordained in 1897. He received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology in 1898, the S.T.L. in 1899, and the S.T.D. in 1903. He also spent three years of special studies at the universities of Bonn and Heidelberg in Germany. He became an instructor in Church History at the Catholic University in 1903, was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1905, Associate Professor in 1907 and to a full professorship in 1910. He held the Patrick Quinn Chair of Church History until his death in 1937. He had also served as the Dead of the Theology faculty. At one time Dr. Healy had served as Dean of Faculty of Theology at the University. Mgsr. Healy was a member of the American Society of Church History, American Historical Association, American Catholic Historical Association, American Irish Historical Society and the American Political Science Association. He was the author of two books, The Valerian Persecution and Historical Christianity and the Social Question. He spent a month touring Europe in 1933 and had an audience with Pope Pius XI. He died at Providence Hospital in Washington and was buried in Brooklyn, New York. Scope and Contents This collection is divided into four series. The first series is Correspondence, 1923-1937, in box 1. Most of this is about Father Healy's appointment to Domestic Prelate. The second series is Lecture Notes, 1908-1926, and undated, in boxes 2-4, consisting primarily Healy's lecture notes from the various Church History classes that he taught at Catholic University. The third series is Research and Writings, 1920s and undated, in box 4. This includes reference materials, probably used for his writings, both in print and for sermons. For example, he wrote several books reviews for publications such as Commonweal and the Catholic Historical Review. The fourth and last series is Catholic University Administrative, 1930 and undated, in box 4. This has material related to the Theology school at Catholic University and some student grades (restricted access).
