He gave lectures in English and American History at the Institute of Pedagogy in New York City from 1902 to 1904, when he became assistant professor at the The Catholic University of America, retiring in 1939. He served as the President of the American Catholic Historical Association (ACHA) from 1922-1923. This collection contains notes on the various works on American History written by McCarthy, as well as book reviews, published articles, clippings, lectures, correspondence, and other materials.
