Steven Strunk Steven Strunk Papers 15 boxes, 20 feet The Steven Strunk Papers contains records of Steven Strunk's career, beginning with his time as a student at Julliard and continuing through his teaching, research, and composing work at the Catholic University of America. 323 English Biographical Note Born in 1943, Steven Strunk received his B.M. at the Boston Conservatory of Music in 1965 before attending the Juilliard School, where he received his D.M.A. in 1971. He joined The Catholic University of America as an assistant professor in 1973, before becoming an associate professor in 1977 and ordinary professor in 1992. He passed away in 2012. Dr. Strunk was an accomplished performer, instructor, and scholar. This collection reflects over thirty years of his teaching and composing career, as well as scholarly articles and research interests and administrative duties. Scope and Contents This collection comprises the personal papers and professional records of Steven Strunk, including selections of his correspondence, audio/visual recordings, and memorabilia. The dates run from the beginning of his education at The Julliard School, 1965-1971, to just before his sudden death in 2012. Series One, Student Works, contains binders from Strunk's time as a student at Julliard, 1965-1971.Series Two, Professional Work, relates to Strunk's career at The Catholic University of America ca. 1973-2011, but mostly undated, and is further divided into three Subseries:Subseries A, Research, contains assorted articles collected over the years by Strunk.Subseries B, Publications, are copies of scholarly articles written by Strunk.Subseries C, Conferences, contains materials produced by various academic and musical conferences attended by Strunk.Series Three, Teaching, 1972-2012, n.d., is divided into four Subseries: Courses and Coursework, Course Evaluations, Masters and PhD Dissertations and Compositions, and Advising and Faculty Meetings.Series Four, Subject Files, contains assorted records of interest that do not easily fit into other series. Dates are often missing, but most records can be assumed to originate from his time at The Catholic University of America, 1973-2012.Series Five, Music, contains compositions written by Strunk and others, mostly of unnoted dates.Series Six, Audio/Visual Materials, contains recordings of musical performances by Strunk and others, also undated.
