520 2 |a The Richard Deverall Papers are composed of 15 linear feet of correspondence, reports, clippings, class notes, and publications that span 1928-1959. The collection encompasses the first half of Deverall's adult life, but focuses most heavily on his overseas activities in the military and in the labor movement in the 1940s and 1950s. Much of the material relates to Deverall's activities in helping create democratic anti-communist trade unions in Asia, particularly in Japan and India. His reports and correspondence painstakingly detail the political, labor, and social situations of the countries he was living, whether it be in the military during World War II, or in occupied Japan, India, or other parts of Asia in the post-war period. The collection also includes Deverall related publications, like numerous pamphlets he authored, newsletters and magazines he edited, clippings from newspapers and magazines, as well as a small amount of personal materials, such as class notes from college courses.
