545 |a The Treasure Chest of Fun & Fact was a Catholic comic book that began publication by George Pflaum of Dayton, Ohio, with a cover date of March 12, 1946. It was a response to the undesirable comic books of that time with the intent to use the comics format to teach tenets of both Catholic faith and American patriotism. It was generally not available for sale at newsstands but rather via distribution through the Catholic parochial school system.

561 |a Custodial HistoryEight bound volumes (5-12) of the comic book, Treasure Chest of Fun & Fact, 1949-1957, were deposited in the Archives by W. Wingate Snell upon his retirement in November of 1970 after sixteen years working for Catholic University's Commission on American Citizenship. Seventeen bound volumes (1-3, 5-12, 15-20), some of them duplicates, were transferred to the Archives by Chiyono Sata of the Cataloging Department, CUA's Mullen Library, in June of 2003. Scores of additional loose copies for the years 1950 to 1972 received in May 2006 from contributor Frank Borth. The Commission was a contributor to the Treasure Chest which was published by George Pflaum of Ohio from inception in 1946 until T.S. Dennison took over and published the last year, 1971-1972. The following years are public domain: 1946-1963, inclusive, and 1972. Since it was never published by nor part of CUA's Commission on American Citizenship, the decision was taken to separate it as a manuscript collection and to make it available as a digital collection.
