Many pamphlets also include artistic representations or illustrations of each station. Materials are in English, Italian, French, Polish, Spanish and German. History of the Marian Library The Marian Library was founded by the Marianists of the University of Dayton in 1943 to make the Blessed Virgin Mary better known, loved, and served. It is a special library whose presence on campus is a significant expression of the university's Catholic and Marianist identity. Its collections are developed and maintained to preserve and provide access to materials that support its mission of fostering Marian scholarship and sound Marian devotion. The Marian Library is recognized both nationally and internationally as a center for scholarship on the Blessed Virgin Mary. It serves the research needs of faculty and students of the International Marian Research Institute and of the broader University of Dayton community, and of visitors throughout the world. Scope and Contents This collection contains Stations of the Cross (also referred to as the Way of the Cross) pamphlets in English and European languages, as well as Redemptorist and Franciscan pamphlets. The collection represents various methods and traditions of praying the Stations of the Cross.Besides the Franciscan and Redemptorist methods, the collection includes pamphlets that are created with a particular audience or group in mind. Some of these include a Way of the Cross for soldiers and service men, migrants, children, seminarians, priests, and nuns. The collection also includes the devotional practice from a Marian viewpoint, and pamphlets intended for both private and/or public devotion. Many pamphlets also include artistic representations or illustrations of each station. Most pamphlets include the following 14 stations, some pamphlets include the fifteenth station for meditation upon the Resurrection.
