In the first part there are texts for meditative reading on Mary's greatness; parallels between her, the sun and the moon; her beauty; titles of honour; the Marian Feasts of the Immaculate Conception, Nativity, Purification, Annunciation, Visitation, and Assumption. The woodcut illustrations in all comprise: a 'hortus conclusus' (enclosed garden as symbol of the Virgin Mary), two versions of the Virgin and Child with crescent moon; Virgin enthroned within a rosary; a rosary; a crown; and a depiction of the Annunciation.
