Descripción
Sumario:Sermon about a "miracle at the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles in Mexico city. An icon of the Virgin Mary, 'being exposed to the elements and supported only by a weak adobe wall, suffered no damage. The wall was the first object of the miracle, which, having been covered by the waters of the lake in a flood suffered by the city, did not disintegrate under the onslaught of water' (Cátalogo de la Colección Lafragua de la Benememérita, translated). The survival of the effigy was, however, apparently subjected to skepticism and mockery: 'han sido otros tantos poderosisimos enemigos que han conspirado visiblemente al total exterminio de esa Pared y de esa Imágen' (page 3) and in an effort to destroy it, mats were soaked and plastered onto the image and fixed with boards, intended to cause rot and decomposition of the painting beneath them. The image remained unscathed. The sermon ends by requesting the continuing protection of Maria de las Aguas, but also appends a post-script disclaimer affirming that the events described have not been officially declared as miracles"--Inlibris.
