Summary: | Black and white engraving of a graveyard. In the center of the illustration is an open grave; the tombstone is engraved with a skull and crossbone, topped with a cross and wreath, and has black fabric draped across it. Other tombstones are visible in the background. Above the open grave, a white dove flies with an olive branch in its beak towards a glowing wreath of roses and branches of lilies at the top of the illustration. Below the illustration is a verse in French. The illustration was made by a French artist, V. Regnault. The back of the card has an inscription in Dutch commemorating the death of H.J. Becker in 1873 in Mensingeweer, the Netherlands. The inscription includes a verse from the Book of Tobit and a prayer. Above the inscription is an image of a casket draped in fabric surrounded by four candles. The card was printed by the Dutch printer G.J. Sluiter in Kromelleboog. |
