Gaia: | In 2021, Wisconsin adopted the World-Class Instructional Design and
Assessment (WIDA) English Language Development (ELD) standards for English
Learners (ELs). The purpose of this literature review is to look over the implementation
of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and other standards based on the
foundation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to suggest successful strategies
and professional development for educational leaders and teachers as they apply the
WIDA ELD standards in classrooms across Wisconsin. The research questions are: (1)
What are considered successful ways to enact new teaching standards? (2) What were
classrooms like before the Next Generation Science Standards? (3) How did
administrators and teachers find success as they put the Next Generation Science
Standards into effect? (4) What lessons should educational leadership and teachers use
from other standards as they implement the WIDA ELD standards in the next few years?
The key findings were that teachers should take part in aligning new standards to the
current curriculum and that properly supported, continuous professional development led
to a successful school culture. The lack of teaching strategies with common standards for
English Learners should be researched further. |
