Original correspondence is by Cardinal Vaughan to Cornelius Dowling and James Noonan, the first two provincials of the American mission of St. Joseph's Society of the Sacred Heart. Included is an original autograph draft of the first official rules of the society drawn up by Cardinal Vaughan in January 1875 at the society's first chapter. In addition, copies of typed transcriptions of correspondence from James Noonan in the Mill Hill Archives, London, provided by Josephite Archives, Baltimore, Maryland are present. Also included, photographs and drawings of Cardinal Vaughan's brothers, John S. Vaughan and Bernard Vaughan, and his nephew, Rev. Herbert Vaughan.
