545 0 |a Rev. Richard Ronald St. John was born December 9, 1895, in Souris, Prince Edward Island. He enrolled in St. Dunstan's seminary from which he graduated in 1916 and then attended the University of Laval and the Grand Seminary of Quebec City. St. John was ordained on December 21, 1919, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, by the Most Rev. Henry J. O'Leary, D.D., Bishop of Charlottetown. Following four years of service as assistant at St. Dunstan's Cathedral, he moved to Chicago and became editor of the Catholic Extension Society's Extension magazine. He served as secretary to Francis C. Kelley, Bishop of Oklahoma City and founder of the Catholic Church Extension Society, for six years. In 1940 St. John became the vice president and general secretary of the Catholic Church Extension Society, a position he retained until his death on February 17, 1954.
