545 | 1 | |a The Philosophy Department of Loyola University of Chicago was established in 1932. It was created to aid students in developing the reflective ability and logical skills necessary for clear and careful reasoning, to acquaint them with basic and perennial philosophical questions and with classical and contemporary philosphical literature, and to encourage them to develop their own critically informed responses to these questions. These records are primarily the records of those who chaired the Philosophy Department from 1956 to 1985: Rev. Robert W. Mulligan, S.J. (1955-1959); Rev. F. Torrens Hecht, S.J. (1960-1965); Francis J. Catania, Ph.D. (1966-1973); Kenneth Thompson, Ph.D. (1973-1979); and Rev Robert F. Harvanek, S.J. (1979-1985). | |
