| Item Description: | The genuineness of the collection has beeen questioned by several authorities (Lowndes, Barbier, Vacant et Magenot, etc.) the authorship being attributed to L.A. de Caraccioli. That it is in substance a genuine collection, though some of the letters are spurious, is affirmed by Alfred von Reumont in his "Ganganelli ... seine briefe und seine zeit. 1847." At the end of v. 3. : "La vie du Pape Clement XIV (Gangenelli) par M. Caraccioli." The "Orasion funebre du Pape Clément XIV" (p. [235]-260 of v. 2) is by Simon Mattzell, S.J.
