520 |a Interview conducted for Voices from the Catholic Worker. Joe and Mary Alice Zarrella discuss Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day and how they were influenced by them personally. They tell anecdotes about how Day ran the New York house, and how they dealt with some of the problems that came up, including health inspectors and unruly guests. They talk at great length about their encounters with Day, Maurin, and other early members of the Catholic Worker Movement. Their stories delve into the philosophies of Day and Maurin and how they interacted with other people. They also talk about the Catholic Church, the changes that have occurred in it in the twentieth century, and some of the conflicts that have arisen over feminism in the church. Later Joe shows photographs from the early days of the Catholic Worker and talks about some of the Workers at St. Joseph's House and other houses across the country. They, again, discuss the Workers that they've encountered and some of the guests. Interviewed by Rosalie Riegle Troester. Interruptions in audio present in original recording.
