Description
Résumé:Formal remarks by María Teresa Tula at a Catholic Worker Friday Night Meeting held in New York sometime after 1986. She makes her remarks in Spanish, and they are simultaneously translated by Laura Lomas. Tula discusses the mission of the Comité de Madres Oscar Arnulfo Romero, or the COMADRES of El Salvador, who advocate for human rights in El Salvador. She gives the background of the committee which is made up, primarily, of women whose children or spouses have disappeared or been assassinated. She discusses atrocities committed against political prisoners in El Salvador and condemns the U.S. for its foreign aid. She also talks about how she was detained and tortured by the police. A brief question and answer session follows the remarks.
