Weisbecker was a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark during the 1930s-1960s. He served as the Hospital Chaplain at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey for many years. He provided the church with insightful and contemporary sermons. Father Weisbecker diligently saved newspaper clippings about then-contemporary issues and incorporated these themes into his weekly sermons. He was well loved and respected by those in his parish. Scope and Contents note The James A. Weisbecker papers primarily consists of sermons that incorporated the contemporary issues of the world with the teachings of Catholicism from the 1930s to the 1960s. In addition to the sermons, which make up the bulk of the collection, newspaper clippings, correspondences, and scrapbooks are also included.
