Jessie, an Australian journalist, turned aviatrix, became the first woman to fly from England to Australia, with her friend Bill Lancaster, in 1927. After going to the United States, chubbie learned to fly and became a highly successful air-racing contestant. The above photo was taken at Parks Airport when chubbie arrived with 12 other women flyers participating in the Transcontinental "Ragwing Derby."
