Frederick H. Ruessmann, granting permissions and approvals or expressing disapproval. Background Henry Joseph Richter (1838-1916) was the first bishop of Grand Rapids, Michigan (1883-1916). Born in Germany, Between 1854, when he came to America, and 1860, he studied at St Xavier's College in Cincinnati, at St Joseph's College in Bardstown, Kentucky, and at Mount St Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. He completed his education in Rome at the Pontifical North American College (1860-1865) and earned a Doctor of Sacred Theology there. Ordained in 1865, he served as a professor and vice-president at Mount St Mary's Seminary until Pope Leo XIII appointed him bishop of Grand Rapids. Frederick H. Ruessmann served as pastor of St Mary of the Assumption Church in Provement (Leelanau County), Michigan, from 1891 to 1895. Richter, Henry Joseph Catholic Church. Diocese of Grand Rapids (Mich.) He must return to his own place. CDGD /2 Bp Henry Joseph Richter to Fr Frederick H. Ruessmann 1892/0517 Approves his plan to build a church, as long as he has the means and will not contract debt. CDGD /3 Bp Henry Joseph Richter to Fr Frederick H. Ruessmann 1892/1110 The sacristy of the new church will be too small; otherwise the bishop approves his plans, and wishes him luck raising funds. The bishop cannot approve the plan for an addition to the church without further information about the size of the church and of the proposed addition.
