Generally in French, with some typewritten English abstracts or paraphrases. Background Napoleon Joseph Perché, born in Angers, France, 10 January 1805, served as a priest in the Dioceses of Angers (1829-1837), Bardstown, and New Orleans (1837-1870). In 1870 he became coadjutor bishop and then Archbishop of New Orleans.
