| Item Description: | First published in French in 1742 in Besançon by Bogillot with title Pensées sur les plus importantes vérités de la religion et sur les principaux devoirs du christianisme, par un docteur en théologie; text was republished often, corrected and augmented, sometimes with the title Instructions sur les principales vérités de la religion ...; authorship attributed also to "un ecclésiastique du diocèse de Besançon", but is sometimes named: "M. Humbert, prêtre-missionaire". Bardier indicates the author as P.-H. Humbert and lists Claude Drouas de Boussey, bishop of Toul, who addressed the sermons to the clergy and faithful in his diocese for their edification. In addition to the recommendation of Claudius, Bishop of Toul, dated in Tull, Hornung (February) 3, 1760, which is found in the French editions, the 1781 German translation includes the recommendation of Ludwig Joseph von Montmorency Laval, Bishop of Metz, dated in Frescati August 29, 1773 and the exhortation of Toussaint, Bishop of Arath, dated in Straßburg Wintermonat (November) 29, 1773.
