Beskrivelse
Emne beskrivelse:Published anonymously; attributed to Abbot Jean-Baptiste Lasausse. According to the censor, this work with the title Le vrai Pénitent, entrant dans les sentimens de pénitence de David is translated from the Italian. A similar title was published in Italian in 1716 by Alessandro Diotallevi, S.J.,1648-1721: L'idea di un vero penitente ravvisata nel penitente re Davide da lui espressa nel salmo cinquantesimo e proposta da imitare ad ogni penitente christiano, which was often reprinted and translated, but it is not in the form of Spiritual Exercises like Le Vrai pénitent. Later enlarged versions of Le Vrai pénitent include a seven-day spiritual exercise on the virtues with the title: Le vrai penitent de nos jours ou Pratiques de vertus pour tous les jours de la semaine, translated by Lasausse from the life of Labre by Giuseppe Marconi.
Frontispiece portrait of Joseph Labre by N.F. Martinet: Benoist Joseph Labre, Né en la Paroisse de St. Sulpice, Diocese de Boulogne en France. Mort à Rome en odeur de Sainteté le 16. Avril 1783.
Half-title on leaf facing engraved portrait; verso of half-title is an advertisement, listing books available from the bookseller; typographical ornaments as head- and tail-pieces; initials; includes bibliographic references
