Description
Item Description:A volume of previously published polemical pamphlets, delivered as sermons by Dom-Stiffts-Kirche preacher Franz Neumayr; with original title pages, pagination, and signatures but without a collective title. A frontispiece portrait of the author precedes the first pamphlet. Almost all of the titles begin with the phrase: Frag: ob ... and all are published by Crätz und Sommer between 1753 and 1756. In 1757 and 1766 Crätz and Sommer published a three-volume collection of Neumayr's polemical sermons, including the sermons in this 1756 volume, but with a collective title page : Heilige Streitt-Reden uber wichtige Glaubens-Fragen.
Statement of responsibility, place of publication and publisher are taken from the title page of the first pamphlet. Publication date is taken from the engraved portrait of Franz Neumayr, a frontispiece which provides limited bibliographic information. The date (1756) is provided in the form of a chronogram in three different phrases in the engraving: nVLLI CeDe MaLo (that is, MDCLLLVI); potIVs MaLa CeDere Coge (that is, MDCCLVI); Verae roManae Defensor eCCLesIae (that is, MDCCLVI).
"C. Privil. S. Caes. M." -- engraved frontispiece.
Engraved frontispiece portrait of Neumayr, signed by George Bernard Götz: G.B. Götz, furtive del. et filius ejus sculps. A.V. The engraved portrait by G.B. Göz and son is similar to that used in the 1757 and 1766 editions of Neumayr's Heilige Streitt-Reden but is different in many details.
Head- and tail-pieces; initials; marginal and foot notes.
