Item Description:Originally composed for the education of Johann Christian (I) of Eggenberg (1641-1710) by his preceptor and instructor, Franciscus Antonius Khrabonna. After the death of Johann Christian in 1710, the book was used to educate the noble youth of Graz in ethics and piety. Cf. title of the 1717 publication of this work by Lehner in Graz: Rudimenta vitae christiano-politicae seu Prima nobilis juventutis recte instituendae praecepta metro ligata. Primum pro serenissimo et celsissimo juvene Joanne Christiano S.R.I. Principe-Comite Gradiscae, Duce Crumlovii & Principe ab Eggenberg felicis memoriae concinnata; deinde vero post piissimum ejus obitum nobillisimae et illustrissimae juventuti Graecensi / dicata ab ... praefecto & instuctore Francisco Antonio Khrabonna.
Author's name is absent from this 1759 Graz edition by Joseph Mauritius Lechner, but the dedication in this edition is signed with the initials: F.A.K.

Inserted into Notre Dame's copy of this work between leaves A2 (dedication by F.A.K.) and A3 (Lectori benevolo salutem) is a six-leaf publication of Trattner: Assertiones ex universa philosophica: oblatae spectabili Domino Paulo Bakich de Lak ... publicae concertationi expositae & propugnatae Anno Dni MDCCLXXIX Mensis Septembris die per Ignatium Poszavecz, Bernardinum Farkassich, Ambrosium Levatich ac Jeremiam Belloberk ...; praeside Sabino Szekovanich .... Agram Tybis (sic.) Joannis Thomae Nobilis de Trattnern ... This inserted work is found in at least one other copy of this book in the Nacinolna i sveučilišna knjižnica u Zagrebu (National and University Library in Zagreb) (RIIF-16°-164a,b). These copies were given to those attending the theses defense at the Ecclesia Divae Catherinae Virgini in the Franciscan convent in Krapina (Croatia). Texts were sometimes given to those who attended dissertation defences and were bound with the theses or Assertiones ex universa philosophia.
