Summary: | Manuscript service book handwritten in Ge'ez. Text block bound in wooden boards, housed in original hide carrying case. 100 vellum leaves with text written in black and red ink. Text is of the Gospel of John, likely from the second half of the 19th century or the first half of the twentieth century. Two full page illumations depict St. George and the Dragon and Theotokos Galaktotrophousa. Created by Wäldä Dawit, scribe and Däbtära Mäsfən, illuminator. The illuminations were created in 1935-1936, much later than the creation of the manuscript itself. |
