| Item Description: | Originally written in Spanish by St. Ignatius of Loyola and given its official Latin translation by Juan Polanco. Cf. Backer-Sommervogel vol. V, 75. Vol. 2 of the first complete edition of the constitution, rules, decrees, etc. of the Jesuits; the series entitled by Backer-Sommervogel the "Corpus Institutorum S. Iesu" and by New Catholic Encyclopedia as the "Institutum." This genuine edition is identified by the spelling "Ioannem Mevrsivm" (with initial I and medial v's) in the publisher statement. Signatures: A-Z? 2A-2D? 2Ee?. Title vignette (printer's device of van Meurs, consisting of a clasped book flanked by two angels and surmounted by a bust of Ignatius, motto below reads "Ad maiorem Dei gloriam."); initials; tailpieces; printed marginalia. |
